Who teaches
Reana Rae lives in Mindo. She recently earned an international certification to teach English, which she counts among the things she is proudest of. Before that she spent more than ten years in beauty and wellness work, and at Portal de Paz she also offers reflexology, cupping and baby yoga.
How the classes work
In her words: a lot of patience, a lot of repetition, and learning with the body as well as the book. She keeps no fixed routine, so the lesson follows the student. If you learn by doing more than by memorising lists, that is the point.
Who the classes are for
Mindo lives on visitors, and a lot of them arrive speaking English: birders, hikers, people on a long trip through Ecuador. For guides, hostel staff and anyone who serves them, English is part of the job. The classes suit beginners and people who want to stop freezing up when a tourist asks a question.
If you are an English speaker living here, they also suit a partner, a teenager or an employee who wants to learn. Ask Reana whether she teaches children.
What it costs
From $5 a class. Reana says the price varies, so ask her what a class costs for what you need. You pay her directly.
